The Immigration Attorney will be responsible for offering legal representation and counsel to clients navigating the complexities of immigration law. Responsibilities:
- Legal Representation: Provide expert legal advice and representation to clients in various immigration matters, including but not limited to asylum, family-based immigration, deportation defense, and naturalization.
- Case Management: Manage a caseload of clients, including preparation and filing of applications, petitions, and motions; attending interviews and hearings; and maintaining comprehensive and accurate case files.
- Client Interaction: Conduct consultations with clients to assess their legal needs, provide clear explanations of legal processes, and develop case strategies. ● Advocacy: Advocate on behalf of clients before immigration authorities, including the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), the Executive Office for Immigration Review (EOIR), and other relevant agencies.
- Legal Research and Writing: Stay current with changes in immigration law and policy, and conduct thorough legal research to support case preparation. Draft legal documents, briefs, and appeals as necessary.
- Community Engagement: Collaborate with community organizations and stakeholders to promote awareness of immigrant rights and legal resources. Participate in outreach and educational events to support immigrant communities.
- Supervision and Training: Provide guidance and mentorship to legal staff, including paralegals and interns. Assist in the development of training materials and programs for the team.
- Reporting: Prepare and submit reports on case outcomes, client statistics, and other relevant metrics to the Director of Immigration Services.
Education and Experience:
- Education: Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school. ● Licensure: Admitted to practice law in Indiana and in good standing.
- Experience: Minimum of 2-5 years of experience in immigration law. Experience working with underserved or immigrant populations is highly desirable.
- Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, excellent written and verbal communication abilities, and the capacity to manage multiple cases simultaneously. Proficiency in Spanish is necessary and in other languages is a plus.
- Attributes: Demonstrated commitment to social justice and advocacy for immigrant communities. Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a dynamic environment.
Salary & Benefits:
- Salary range $75,000 - $85,000
- This is a full-time position (at least 40 hours per week) and is salary pay based on experience.
