IMMIGRATION  ATTORNEY

Description of Position: 
La Casa de Amistad, a leading organization dedicated to providing support and legal advocacy for immigrant communities, is seeking a skilled and compassionate Immigration Attorney to join our team. The Immigration Attorney will be responsible for offering legal representation and counsel to clients navigating the complexities of immigration law. This position is ideal for a motivated individual who is passionate about immigrant rights and social justice. 

Responsibilities: 
  • Legal Representation: Provide expert legal advice and representation to clients in various immigration matters, including but not limited to asylum, family-based immigration, deportation defense, and naturalization. 
  • Case Management: Manage a caseload of clients, including preparation and filing of applications, petitions, and motions; attending interviews and hearings; and maintaining comprehensive and accurate case files. 
  • Client Interaction: Conduct consultations with clients to assess their legal needs, provide clear explanations of legal processes, and develop case strategies. ● Advocacy: Advocate on behalf of clients before immigration authorities, including the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), the Executive Office for Immigration Review (EOIR), and other relevant agencies. 
  • Legal Research and Writing: Stay current with changes in immigration law and policy, and conduct thorough legal research to support case preparation. Draft legal documents, briefs, and appeals as necessary. 
  • Community Engagement: Collaborate with community organizations and stakeholders to promote awareness of immigrant rights and legal resources. Participate in outreach and educational events to support immigrant communities. 
  • Supervision and Training: Provide guidance and mentorship to legal staff, including paralegals and interns. Assist in the development of training materials and programs for the team. 
  • Reporting: Prepare and submit reports on case outcomes, client statistics, and other relevant metrics to the Director of Immigration Services. 

Education and Experience: 
  • Education: Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school. ● Licensure: Admitted to practice law in Indiana and in good standing.
  • Experience: Minimum of 2-5 years of experience in immigration law. Experience working with underserved or immigrant populations is highly desirable.
  • Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, excellent written and verbal communication abilities, and the capacity to manage multiple cases simultaneously. Proficiency in Spanish is necessary and in other languages is a plus. 
  • Attributes: Demonstrated commitment to social justice and advocacy for immigrant communities. Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a dynamic environment. 

Salary & Benefits:
  • Salary range $75,000 - $85,000 
  • This is a full-time position (at least 40 hours per week) and is salary pay based on experience. 
  • Bi-weekly accrued PTO (Paid Time Off) and eight paid holidays 
  • Medical insurance available (health, vision, and dental) available 
  • Roth Investment Retirement Account (IRA) - up to 3% match
