La Casa de Amistad / Services and Programs / Family & Social Services

volunteersFamily success is linked to community success. Here at La Casa de Amistad, we strive to build stronger families and have created referral networks and programming or partnered to provide more options for our community to be connected to needed services.

We assist with paperwork, document translation, notary, referrals to Spanish speaking agencies, online forms and applications in English and more. We provide assistance with applications for citizenship.

Immigration Legal Services
All Year Round
We opened this new program in January of 2015 to serve our community with this critical need. Our Immigration Legal Services Program provides vital immigration application assistance and services for the community and is Recognized by the Board of Immigration Appeals, along with our bilingual DOJ Accredited Immigration Legal Representative and staff. The BIA, a branch of the U.S. Department of Justice, is the highest administrative body for interpreting and administering immigration law. Our agency is also an affiliate of CLINIC (Catholic Legal Immigration Network, Inc.).

Despensa de Comida (Food Pantry)
Wednesdays from 2PM to 4:45PM

Fortaleciendo Familias (Strengthening Families)
Held Wednesdays from 5:30-7:00 pm
Two Sessions (Fall and Spring)
Classes to help strengthen family communication skills and to help parents connect better with their children in school work and working together as a family. Children 5 and up are included in the programming and we provide childcare for children ages 2-5 during the classes.

Team HEAT
November to March
We are a site for the Team HEAT program through the Community Access Network and the United Way. We require families to complete a financial management program and attend monthly family development sessions. Families who complete the requirements can receive assistance with winter gas utility bills.

Partnerships and Referrals
All Year
In the community, we serve as a referral site for many other agencies, or help other groups with outreach in the community. For example we do Flu Shots with Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center free of charge, support WIC for holding appointments in the Marycrest building, partner with the Latino Task Force for Education on sharing space, host a Diabetes Support group with Memorial Hospital, make referrals to the YWCA, and much much more. If you have a social service and would like to connect with the Latino community please let us know.
