On Tuesday, February 13th, 2018 we had the pleasure of hearing Dolores Huerta speak at the University of Notre Dame. We were able to take a group of students from our Adelante program and we all left truly inspired. Her words were powerful and her long term commitment impressive.
It is not every day that a civil rights legend comes to town. We were joined by over 300 people that came to hear her speak. Dolores is 87 years old now and still working just as hard to create change. If you have not seen the movie about her life, or read about her work with Cesar Chavez and others please do so right away. Here is a place to start: wiki
We were honored that the Institute for Latino Studies gave us a special invitation to attend the program and to get a group photo with her. Thank you to Dr. Fraga, Laly, and everyone at ILS that helped make the program possible!
After her visit, she spoke at the United States Hispanic Leadership (USHLI) Conference and wore one of our “No Human Being is Illegal” buttons. What an honor to have her supporting our campaign!
