Summer Youth Programs
On June 12th we kicked off our three summer youth programs. We are excited to welcome over 50 youth for our summer programming. You will see these students around town and of course you can come and visit to see them in action right here at La Casa.
Listos Para Kinder: Our “Listos Para Kinder” (Ready for Kinder) program kicked off with 11 students who are getting ready to start kindergarten this fall. This is an eight week program sponsored by the United Way, Saint Joseph Health System and is running in partnership with El Campito.
Crece Conmigo: The Crece (Grow with me) students are spending their summer exploring Magical Realism! So far, we’ve watched films, read about ancient legends, made indigenous arts and crafts, worked in the community gardens, and had tons of fun on a magical realist scavenger hunt at the Snite Museum of Art. Now we’re getting ready to begin some fun recreational activities, including tennis and swimming with the South Bend Police Department.
Adelante: The Adelante (Forward!) teens have a fun and busy summer ahead! In addition to exploring magical realism in art and film (and ice cream!), our Adelente students started their STEM camp with Paradigm Shift (led by Notre Dame graduate students) trying to demystify some of life’s mysteries. They are also busy preparing a short reinterpretation of Romeo & Juliet through a magical realist and Latinx perspective, and they’ll go on their first college visit of the summer this week to tour Valparaiso University!
If you know someone that would enjoy the program we would love to have them sign up. Call us to register. 574.233.2120.
